The Fourth Annual Houston Modern Home Tour Opens Doors this Weekend

Houston, TX (PRWEB) September 17, 2014 -- Modern Home Tours LLC begins its 2014 Fall Tour run with a fourth visit to Houston Texas this weekend. During the 2014 Houston Modern Home Tour, attendees will have the opportunity to explore seven modern homes in the Houston area that exemplify modern architecture and living. Visitors can get the inside scoop from homeowners on what it’s like to live in a modern home, and talk to the architects to find out where they got their inspiration. This is every Houston resident’s chance to see the inside of ‘that unique, cool house you always drive by…’

Continuing a solid partnership, Lawndale Art Center has been named the Houston Modern Home Tour’s local non-profit beneficiary for the third year in a row. They will help staff the event, in return for a small donation and the opportunity to use the tour as a fundraising vehicle to help further their mission of presenting contemporary art from regional artists to the masses.

Seven homes have been accepted and confirmed for the 2014 Houston Modern Home Tour. Participating architects and designers, and featured neighborhoods include:

  • A Japanese-influenced home in Greater Heights (designed, built and inhabited by Christopher Robertson of Robertson Design) that is comprised of two simple boxes (one concrete, one wood) that allow for plenty of natural light and maintain a sculptural presence.
  • A unique custom home in Hedwig Village, designed by 2Scale Architects, that was inspired by the contemporary architecture of Mexico and features reflecting pools, privacy walls and floor to ceiling glass walls with massive sliding doors allow several outdoor rooms to expand the living experience. You can also visit the Casita or “little house” - a separate building with game room, guest quarters and pool bath.
  • A second Hedwig Village home, this one designed and owned by designer Lisa Pope-Westerman, which sits upon a steel framing system which rises 42 inches above the earth, to allow the edge of the home to cantilever directly over the fault line that runs through the property.
  • “The House of Many Gardens”, designed by architect Scott Strasser and built by Carol Isaak Barden & Company, is located in West University Place and features a spacious catering kitchen and uninterrupted garden views from the entrance, from the living and dining room, and even the master bath.
  • The “Triangle House and Studio” in Greater Heights, designed by Bianchi Architects and inhabited by international artist Joseph Cohen, is built upon an unusual shaped triangular lot, which lead to the triangular form of the home with open plans that allow free circulation, open-space, natural light, and indoor-outdoor living; the entire third floor is the artist’s studio.
  • A second Bianchi Architects home, this one located in University Place, with a unique design that provides privacy for the home owners, but offers plenty of natural light, flowing open spaces, and indoor/outdoor entertaining potential.
  • A home in south Houston, also near University Place, designed by Intexure Architects that is flooded with natural light and wide open spaces.

Participating homes in the 2014 Houston Modern Home Tour will open their doors for viewing from 11AM – 4PM on Saturday, September 20th, in the Houston, Texas, area. All are invited to attend. Tickets for the Houston Modern Home Tour are $30 in advance online; $40 on the day of the tour. Kids under 12 are FREE when accompanying their parents.
