In his 2014 book, “The Harrowed Path” (published by AuthorHouse), John DW Macdonald revealed what it was like living with schizophrenia. Its publication is a key component to the #LetsTalk campaign that advocates mental health and suicide prevention.
This year, the author launches a new press campaign for the book to reach a wider audience and inspire those diagnosed with mental illness that the potential to be healed lies inside of each individual.
This story details on Macdonald’s journey towards healing and recovery. His story, described in a gripping prose, additionally depicted the inner journey in a form of vivid poetry. He believes that others played a vital role in his eventual recovery as emphasized in the book. “It is a success story and demonstrates how it's possible for this ‘enigmatic horrifying’ disease to be healed when compassionate and enlightened people from someone's community come together,” Macdonald explains.
World Health Organization (WHO) reports that schizophrenia affected more than 23 million people worldwide. It is more common among men compared to women. Stigma and discrimination are frequently experienced by those with mental illness. Macdonald aims to minimize it by sharing his book to educate people.
“The Harrowed Path” provides enlightenment and understanding told in a story with a clear set of conclusions to address issues surrounding mental health. With the global health crisis across the world today, the author believes that mentally ill people are in very grave danger of being unintended casualties of pandemic isolation. They need extra efforts to speak with them at this time.
“I don’t think there is any other book which penetrates beneath psychosis as does ‘The Harrowed Path’ by means of a poetic cycle which vividly identifies and describes a mythic soul journey through hell into healing and serenity,” he adds.
