KANSAS CITY, Mo. (PRWEB) November 26, 2018 -- On November 28, 2018, The Kansas City Medical Society will hold its annual meeting at the Overland Park Marriott, 10800 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210. The event will start with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and the awards presentation shortly after. The theme for this year’s meeting is Inspiring Health Together. This will be the first meeting of the joint Kansas City Medical Society and Kansas City Medical Foundation. This meeting will celebrate partnerships from the nonprofit community, local health advocates and doctors that volunteer time, talent and treasure to support the uninsured in the local community.

Angela Bedell, Executive Director of the Kansas City Medical Society states, “Last year two 130-year-old organizations merged to form one of the country’s most prominent medical societies. The Kansas City Medical Society is thriving and fulfilling the mission of patient-centered health. This meeting will celebrate our success and showcase national and local voices dedicated to medicine.”

The Kansas City Medical Society presents awards for leadership, lifelong commitment to health and dedication to the health of the greater Kansas City community. This year the award recipients are:

  • Randall B. Hudson, M.D., Lifetime Achievement Award. He is an anesthesiologist with Saint Luke’s Physician Specialists and adjunct clinical professor of anesthesiology at the UMKC School of Medicine.
  • George E. Stamos, M.D., Lifetime Achievement Award. He is one of the founders of Quivira Internal Medicine at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
  • Daniel S. Durrie, M.D., Innovation Award. He founded Durrie Vision and is a pioneer in refractive surgery technology and procedures.
  • Christine Parker White, M.D., Rising Star Award. A pediatrician with Johnson County Pediatrics, she serves as treasurer of the Kansas City Medical Society board of directors.
  • Nicholas Comninellis, M.D., M.P.H., D.I.M.P.H., Community & Patient Advocate Award. He is the founder and CEO of the Institute for International Medicine which trains health care professionals to serve in underdeveloped countries.
  • North Kansas City Hospital, Community Service Award, for donating services to more than 1500 MetroCare patients over the past 10 years.
  • Richard B. Warner, M.D., psychiatrist in Overland Park, and
  • Arthur D. Snow, Jr., M.D., family medicine doctor in Shawnee Mission, Exemplary Leadership Award, for over 20 years of service as delegates to the Kansas Medical Society and American Medical Association.

In addition to our annual award winners the U.S. Surgeon General Vice Admiral (VADM) Jerome M. Adams, M.D., M.P.H., will give us a national perspective of his theme, “better health through better partnerships,” and we will hear moving personal stories from Jenna Bell and Wesley Hamilton, both giving give testimony to their experiences with the Kansas City Medical Community.

The Kansas City Medical Society:

  • Provides educational programs on issues and trends in medicine
  • Informs physicians through Kansas City Medicine – The Journal of the Kansas City Medical Society
  • Coordinates via the Kansas City Medical Foundation over $12 million of volunteer health care for the uninsured and underinsured
  • Promotes public health initiatives for the region
  • Offers venues for networking (and silo breaking) among physicians
