As the realization of the potential that cryptocurrency and blockchain technology hold in boosting economic parity and access for millions of underserved individuals across the globe continues to rise, the Litecoin Foundation is announcing a new collaboration with UNICEF Kid Power to drive financial education in the classroom and give students the opportunity to make a difference in their communities and around the world.

Named one of TIME’s 25 Best Inventions, and recognized as one of Fast Company’s 2019 World Changing Ideas, UNICEF Kid Power is one of the largest education technology programs reaching underserved elementary schools in over 3,400 cities and towns nationwide.

UNICEF Kid Power is a program of UNICEF USA, which helps kids discover how their everyday activities – like moving and learning – can make a difference in the world. By getting active with UNICEF Kid Power, kids unlock therapeutic food that UNICEF delivers to severely malnourished children around the world. Participating kids also earn Kid Power Coins, a digital Currency-for-Good, that they can give to support causes in their communities. With UNICEF Kid Power, kids save lives globally and give back locally.

The Litecoin Foundation will kick off this collaboration with UNICEF Kid Power in October during Vegas Blockchain Week in Las Vegas at the 2019 Litecoin Summit (October 28-29, 2019). During the summit, attendees will be encouraged to visit the UNICEF Kid Power booth and unlock up to 125,000 Kid Power Coins, which the Litecoin Foundation will underwrite for Las Vegas schools.

With these Kid Power Coins, participating students in the Las Vegas area will be able to support causes in their community. These causes include planting trees to help improve the environment and wildlife habitats, delivering meals to families in need and providing health services, such as vaccinations and check-ups, to children who don’t have access to health care. This activation will bring both UNICEF Kid Power and the values of the Litecoin Foundation to elementary school classrooms in the Las Vegas community.

“We are excited to work with UNICEF Kid Power to give the next generation of kids the tools they need to build healthy financial foundations and give back to their communities along the way,” said Charlie Lee, Creator of Litecoin & Managing Director of the Litecoin Foundation. “Litecoin and other cryptocurrencies have an enormous potential to benefit those who have been left behind in the traditional financial system and this theme of driving financial equality and giving back is something that is core to the Litecoin Foundation’s philosophy.”

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Litecoin Foundation to empower a new generation of global citizens,” said Rajesh Anandan, Creator of UNICEF Kid Power and Vice President of UNICEF Ventures. “We are showing students that they have the power to make a difference in the world while, at the same time, helping their own communities on issues that matter the most to them.”

As the collaboration evolves, the two organizations will work to develop programs designed to increase students' understanding of financial topics and provide them with a real-world view into the impact of giving back to their communities and around the world.
