The Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Foundation Launches Campaign for Middle East and Africa
Friends, partners and community leaders gathered with Prof. Sir Magdi Yacoub and Dr. Magdy Ishak to celebrate a new, advanced medical center to transform cardiac care in the MENA region.
WASHINGTON, May 30, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- To fuel the future of medicine in Egypt, the Middle East and Africa, the Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Foundation launched a campaign for the Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Centre on Thursday, May 9, 2019. Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub and Board Chair Dr. Magdy Ishak gathered friends, partners and community leaders under the patronage of His Excellency Ambassador Yasser Reda, Egypt's Ambassador to the United States, to celebrate this next chapter for the region and call for support to transform this vision into a reality.
The Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Foundation supports the Aswan Heart Centre in Upper Egypt and is raising funds for the future Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Centre in Cairo. Beyond providing urgently needed cardiac care, the centers impact the region and continent by advancing scientific understanding through research and building human health capacities with training programs.
"The work that we do saves lives today and creates a stronger landscape for cardiac health tomorrow," said Professor Yacoub. "Joining together to build the new center will ensure that every child and family has a chance to thrive in health, regardless of wealth, race or religion. It is a critical step for greater justice and equality on behalf of the most vulnerable."
The new, $150-million center will have 300 beds and is expected to elevate the network's care capacity from 33,000 to 140,000 outpatients and 4,000 to 17,000 inpatients annually. Training capacity will grow from 550 to an expected 2,300, dramatically increasing the sector's workforce for impact beyond Egypt's borders.
"We are raising funds to construct and fully equip the center, as well as build a fund to ensure the long-term sustainability of our operations to best serve children and families seeking care," explained Dr. Ishak. "We have secured $90 million, and it's our hope that generous friends in Egypt, the Gulf Region and the United States will push us over the finish line in the next 2 years."
Supporting the campaign for the Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Centre is tax-deductible in the U.S. Every dollar is critical to advancing the frontiers of knowledge, safeguarding the future health of our world and saving the lives of children in Egypt, the Middle East and Africa.
