Sonoma, California (PRWEB) October 24, 2013 -- Valley of the Moon President and Co-proprietor, Dan Zepponi, announced today his plans to further hit the road in support of the much anticipated re-launch of his Valley of the Moon Winery. The multicity tour, which kicked off in California last month, will include some of the North America’s top wine markets.
The journey toward the ‘New Moon’ began a little more than a year ago when Zepponi, a Sonoma native and wine-industry veteran, purchased Valley of the Moon along with his business partners, Canadian wine-industry icon, Tony Stewart and family. After an exhaustive search for a winery property with a true sense of place, Sonoma’s often over-looked but ever-enduring Valley of the Moon Winery seemed the perfect fit.
A step-change in winemaking philosophy guided by consulting winemaker and former Wine Enthusiast ‘Winemaker of the Year,’ Scott McLeod, brought a refocus on quality rather than quantity. This meant slashing production rates, revisiting existing grower contracts and investing in winemaking in general, particularly in the areas of oak management and aging protocols. Zepponi contends that with these investments, combined with an elegant, new package design, Valley of the Moon is finally poised to take its rightful place among Sonoma Valley’s most venerable wineries. And, 150 years since the property was first planted, he thinks it’s about time.
“Most people don’t know that the word ‘Sonoma’ actually means ‘Valley of the Moon’ in the language of Sonoma Valley’s native people,” commented Zepponi. “So, in a sense, Valley of the Moon is Sonoma and we are committed to unlocking the greatness inherent in this place.”
Look for Valley of the Moon’s delicious, new wines as they hit shelves later this month and for owner Dan Zepponi, who is hitting the road right behind them. You will be happy you did.
About Valley of the Moon Winery and Vineyards:
Valley of the Moon Winery borrows its name from the Native American translation of the word ‘Sonoma’ and has been at the heart of the region’s winemaking heritage since its founding in 1941. Its historic winery is located on the original Madrone Vineyard Estate, first planted in 1863, where it thrived in the pre-prohibition era of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
Over its storied history, the property changed hands many times and survived through much iteration. In 1941, the estate was sold to the Italian sausage makers Enrico Parducci and Peter Domenci and renamed ‘Valley of the Moon.’
Today, 150 years since its original founding, Valley of the Moon Winery is undergoing nothing short of a momentous renaissance. Now under the gentle guidance of Sonoma native and wine industry icon, Dan Zepponi, Valley of the Moon Winery is finally poised to take its rightful place among Sonoma Valley’s most celebrated wineries.
