The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay Presents a Screening of “SOMM”
Half Moon Bay, CA (PRWEB) July 31, 2013 -- The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay is pleased to present a special screening of Samuel Goldwyn Films’ “SOMM.” The screening will be held at the oceanfront resort on Sunday, October 13 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Written and directed by Jason Wise, “SOMM” tells the story of four sommeliers attempting to pass the rigorous and prestigious Master Sommelier exam – the most difficult test you have never heard of.
The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with a reception and wine tasting. Guests will enjoy artisan hors d’oeuvres paired with some of wine countries finest vintners. A Fromagerie will guide guests on tasting locally-grown and sourced olive oils and cheeses. Guests can also test their taste buds at the blind tasting table with Ritz-Carlton Sommelier Michael Scherzberg. Starting at 7 p.m., the 90-minute documentary will be previewed in The Ritz-Carlton Ballroom where gourmet movie snacks and wine tastings continue. The screening will be followed by a question and answer session with featured guests filmmaker Jason Wise and sommeliers Ian Cauble, Brian Mclintic, Sabato Sagaria and DLynn Proctor.
"The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay is one of the first places I filmed SOMM, and the bar there is the spot where Ian Cauble taught us how to understand blind tasting," said filmmaker Jason Wise. "I am honored to bring SOMM back to The Ritz-Carlton show it surrounded by fine wine, great food, and the cast of the film," added Wise.
Tickets are $200 per person and are available at http://somm-halfmoonbay.eventbrite.com. Space is limited and tickets must be purchased in advance online.
SOMM takes the viewer on a humorous, emotional and illuminating look into a mysterious world – the Court of Master Sommeliers and the massively intimidating Master Sommelier Exam. The Court of Master Sommeliers is one of the world’s most prestigious, secretive, and exclusive organizations. Since its inception almost 40 years ago, fewer than 200 candidates have reached the exalted Master level. The exam covers literally every nuance of the world of wine, spirits, and cigars. Those who have passed have put at risk their personal lives, their well-being, and often their sanity to pull it off. Shrouded in secrecy, access to the Court Of Master Sommeliers has always been strictly regulated and cameras have never been allowed anywhere near the exam, until now. How much do you think you know about wine? SOMM will make you think again. SOMM takes you on the ultimate insider’s tour into a world of obsession, hope, and friendship in red, Blanc and sometimes rose. For more information, please visit http://www.facebook.com/sommdocfilm
