The Roots of New HarborChase Community Run Deep in Wilmington
WILMINGTON, Del. (PRWEB) August 07, 2018 -- HarborChase of Wilmington, a new local senior living community, will officially open its doors this summer. The luxury retirement community will serve the needs of seniors and families in and around the Wilmington area with 64 independent catered living and 32 memory care apartments. Although the senior living community is managed by Harbor Retirement Associates (HRA) from Vero Beach, Florida, the roots of the community go back for decades in the city of Wilmington.
Tim Smick, Chairman and Managing Partner of HRA, has strong personal ties to the area. His father, Reverend Frank Smick, Jr., served as the pastor at Faith Presbyterian Church on Marsh Road from 1970 to 1987. Smick has fond memories of visiting his father and mother, Terry Smick, in Wilmington when he came home from college.
“The church was always very welcoming to me when I came to visit,” said Smick. “I have great memories of all the people there. I used to love the annual Faith Fall Banquet. My Dad would write hilarious plays and everyone had a great time. It was such a special event.”
Although he worked in Baltimore, Smick served as an active part of the church’s congregation whenever he was in town visiting his parents. In fact, both of his daughters, Kim and Amy, were baptized there. Although his father passed away in 1996, Smick reflects on his father’s legacy often.
“It’s hard to believe that it’s been 22 years,” he said. “His contribution made a real difference in hundreds of people’s lives.”
With such deep ties to the community, Smick loves the idea of creating a senior living community to serve the residents of Wilmington, members of families who he may have crossed paths with at his father’s church years ago.
“The whole notion of building a business that could serve some of these people is very gratifying to me and I’m excited about the prospect,” he said. “It’s coming full circle for me.”
Located on the previous site of Martine’s Nursery on Shipley Road, HarborChase of Wilmington will feature 64 independent catered living apartments and 32 memory care apartments. Residents will enjoy HRA’s signature Life Enrichment program, designed to provide social, devotional, fitness and recreational opportunities that have a positive impact on residents.
“I believe we’re going to bring a new flavor of assisted living and memory care that Wilmington has not seen,” said Smick. “From the time you enter our front doors, you’ll notice that this is not your mother’s senior living community. Our unit sizes are larger, our focus on wellness is incredible and our dining services are amazing. There is nothing like it in Wilmington.”
Located on the previous site of Martine’s Nursery at 2004 Shipley Road in Wilmington, HarborChase of Wilmington is minutes away from area attractions, shopping and restaurants. The community will feature full-service dining, a beauty salon, 24-hour staff, library, wellness center, cocktail lounges, scheduled transportation daily, housekeeping service, concierge services and multiple recreational rooms and programs.
