The University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer Center Selects iLab Solutions to Streamline Core Facility Operations and Increase Research Productivity
(PRWEB) January 20, 2015 -- The University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer Center (MCC) wanted a better way to streamline and automate the accounting and management of its core facilities. After investigating various systems, MCC selected iLab Solutions’ core facility management platform as the best solution to meet its needs. This partnership will see iLab’s software integrated into four of MCC’s core facilities, including the Biospecimen and Tissue Procurement, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Cancer Research Informatics, and Free Radical Biology and Metabolism.
Dr. Heidi Weiss, MCC’s Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Director and Associate Director for Shared Resources, said that “the MCC is committed to satisfy NCI’s standards of efficient operations and effective integration of core facilities with our scientific programs which will ultimately provide added value to the success of the cancer centers’ population science, basic, and translational research endeavors. Our partnership with iLab will be a critical move to achieve the goal of delivering outstanding, timely and cost-efficient core facility services and collaborations.”
“We are excited to work with the Markey Cancer Center,” stated Heather Lorenz, iLab VP, Business Development. “The adoption of a premier standard for MCC's shared resource operations will reduce administrative burden while meeting the needs of its individual core facilities.”
Years of experience have given iLab a proven track record of working closely with its clients to develop systems and processes that increase both core utilization and organization. iLab’s uniform display and search feature will ensure researchers can easily find the MCC resources and services available to them, and administrators will be able to use this tool to easily generate and review reports showing usage across cores as well as providing insight into usage within a single core.
Part of the agreement between MCC and iLab includes integration with MCC’s financial management system. This will provide a single and consistent interface for billing and financial management while reducing errors and increasing cost recovery. This automated process occurs at both the core and institution level.
