An illuminating film with resonant messages of hope and change

The Wake of Light is a romantic drama about a young woman (Rome Brooks) slowly losing hope caring for her aging father and their broken-down farm who meets a charismatic young man (Matt Bush) on a cross-country road trip, who falls for her and asks her to join him on his journey. In confronting the heart-rending choice to leave her father, Mary is forced to confront the real issue keeping her from having a life of her own.

With The Wake of Light, writer-director-producer Renji Philip has done the impossible. He's crafted a film about the timely topic of caring for an aging parent, while simultaneously interweaving themes of spiritual longing, overcoming fear and embracing hope, with gorgeous cinematography by Cinematographer Rainer Lipski and emotive piano music by lauded composer/performer Josh Kramer that makes the spirit soar. The character of Mary is both tender-hearted and sympathetic yet ultimately strong and quietly courageous. Renji Philip is an award-winning writer and director. He grew up in Littleton, Colorado, fly-fishing the rivers of the Roaring Fork Valley. He graduated from the University of Miami in Florida, studied acting at the Stella Adler Conservatory in New York for two years and with Howard Fine in Los Angeles as a full-scholarship student for four years. He's written, directed and produced 5 short films and 2 features, including The Wake of Light.
