Both Liz and the FFC are critical design and evaluation tools for improving wearer protection and thermal comfort in performance wear and protective apparel.
Liz is one of just a few female thermal manikins available for testing apparel for the female form, where nearly 50% of the global population is female. "It's critical that test and research labs have thermal manikins for testing garments on the female form. We are sending female front-line responders into fires and other dangerous field scenarios daily with gear designed and tested only on males," states Rick Burke, President of Thermetrics.
The Thermetics FFC, which bridges the gap between flame exposure testing of flat fabric samples and the costly, but vital step of testing on a flash fire manikin, is a huge boost for test labs with it's quick set-up and testing. About Liz, the thermal female manikin
Liz is taking on the gender disparity in thermal manikins. Based on input directly from customers, and with a clear understanding of their needs, Thermetrics engineers designed the Liz thermal manikin using 3D CAD modeling processes and actual female body scans for realistic morphology. The precision temperature control and sweating systems for Liz are based on proven technologies from our widely used Newton manikin. Liz also incorporates a computational thermoregulation model which can be coupled to the manikin to provide a high level of human realism in response to garment, environment, or simulated activities.
About the Flash Fire Cylinder (FFC)
The FFC is a huge time- and money-saving device for test and research labs. It fills the mid-market gap between testing flat textile samples and testing garments on flame manikins. With its compact design, the FFC fits in a standard lab hood to measure thermal transmission and impact of dimensional changes on material subjected to direct flame exposure in a safe, controlled environment.
