This year's Military Marriage Day theme was "Grow" and focused on Mrs. Sharene Brown, spouse of the Air Force Chief of Staff Charles "CQ" Brown Jr., Five and Thrive initiative, exploring how each area affects the military marriage relationship.
BOSSIER CITY, La., August 19, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Military Marriage Day (MMD) 2022 was presented on August 14, 2022, by Armed Forces Insurance (AFI), B Carroll Events, and the Taya and Chris Kyle Foundation (TACK-F). MMD is an event designed to celebrate both oaths and vows of U.S. military couples. Margaritaville Resort Casino in Bossier City, LA, was the host sponsor for the main event, with two other celebrations held in Arlington, VA, and Dallas, TX. Military couples received greetings from the Chief of Space Operations of the United States Space Force, General John W. "Jay" Raymond and Mrs. Molly Raymond, as well as comedians Michael Jr. and Ashley Gutermuth. This year's theme was "Grow," and focused on Mrs. Sharene Brown's Five and Thrive initiative, exploring how each area affects the military marriage relationship.
Bree Carroll, 2020-2021 Armed Forces Insurance Air Force Spouse of the Year®, founded MMD as an extension of her platform to strengthen military marriages. MMD was launched at the height of the pandemic, a time when maintaining healthy relationships seemed much more difficult. An event planner/designer, Carroll created a day to celebrate military couples and provide resources to strengthen pandemic-stressed marriages.
"According to Military Marriage Survey findings in 2021, when asked 'How would you describe your marriage during active duty, reserve, or guard service,' 65.4% of responses were reported in the desired range of exceptional or above average. However, the 2022 report results show only 53.7% of those surveyed report the desired range of marital health. Clearly, we are seeing a widespread trend of marriage-related concern across branches and ranks that needs to be further explored, understood, and supported," said Carroll.
The Five and Thrive initiative was spearheaded and founded by Mrs. Brown, spouse of the Air Force Chief of Staff Charles "CQ" Brown Jr., to improve the quality of life in military families in five categories: child care, education, health care, spousal employment, and housing. Of Five and Thrive, Mrs. Brown says it "can lead not only to thriving military families but thriving marriages as well. Our goal with this initiative is to ensure these five specific areas are emphasized, and any challenges under them are met with purpose and resolve."
"As an event sponsor at AFI, Our Mission is You®, and we wholeheartedly support this movement to celebrate the member and spouses' commitment to service and one another. When our families are strong, our Armed Forces are stronger," said Lori Simmons, Lori Simmons, VP & Chief Marketing Officer at Armed Forces Insurance.
"We're humbly honored to partner with Bree Carroll's Military Marriage Day," said Taya Kyle, founder of the TACK-F. "My goal with all of this is that we can turn society upside down," says Taya Kyle of TACK-F. "We can have happy older married couples who have invested and learned things along the way and figured it out enough to teach the next generation."
