With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing through the holiday season, Aging Life Care Professionals® and Corporate Partners are continuing to be an essential link between older adults and their families.

Members and Corporate Partners of the Aging Life Care Association® (ALCA) share their commitment to Standards of Practice and a Code of Ethics as they approach the holistic care of an older adult with their services or products.

With many families still far away from their older family member, due to restricted travel warnings, quarantine measures, or practical safety considerations, an Aging Life Care Manager® can help coordinate care to ensure the older adult’s mental or physical health does not suffer.

As Plato said “necessity is the mother of invention” so too have we seen an increase in products and services to help reduce social isolation for older adults during confined time due to the pandemic.

With the increased use of video calls, families and elders are more comfortable using new products such as SoundMind’s voice activated device that uses Amazon’s Alexa to reduce social isolation and keep everyone connected. MyndYou is an app that uses a voice bot to engage with seniors. Using AI that assesses brain activity, it provides care teams with health-related insights. ComforTek’s swiveling chairs or the Personal Living Alert’s Personal Emergency Response systems help older adults when they are living alone. Other services from ALCA partners include meal-delivery services like Moms Meals, therapeutic activity programs like The Hummingbird Project, assisted living resources, travel-assist services like Flying Angels and financial solutions like Care.com HomePay.

Using a Corporate Partner from ALCA is an excellent way for families to be confident in the quality of services or products. Corporate Partners are industry supporters of Aging Life Care who are not solely in the direct practice of Aging Life Care™/care management as defined by ALCA, but have an interest in the field, including elder law attorneys, physicians, educators, researchers, home health agencies, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, manufacturers or distributors of durable medical equipment or other products or services related to the care of elders.

About the Aging Life Care Association®
Aging Life Care Association® was formed in 1985 to advance dignified, coordinated care for older adults in the United States. Founded by and handful of women entrepreneurs in the social work and nursing fields, the Association has grown to over 2000 members nationwide, who have cared for about two million older adults over its 35-year history. Members have extensive training and experience working with older adults, people with disabilities, and families who need assistance with caregiving issues. Members must meet stringent education, experience, and certification requirements. Members may be trained in any of number of fields related to long-term care, including nursing, social work, and other allied health professions with a specialized focus on issues related to aging. All members are required to adhere to a strict Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. Aging Life Care™ and the role of care providers have captured a national spotlight with the onset of the global pandemic, and as generations of Baby Boomers age in the United States and abroad.
