This Summer, Parents Want Kids to Put Down the Phone, Pick Up a Book
NEW YORK (PRWEB) June 19, 2019 -- Kids work hard during the school year, so they really do need a break, but that doesn’t mean parents will let them spend their time on screens all day.

A large majority of American readers (80%) plan to put away their cell phones to focus on reading this summer. Of those expressing the desire to make reading a priority, many have vowed not to look at their phones for between 30 minutes and 2 hours during each reading session. Meanwhile, 9 out of 10 parents are asking the same of their children.
These are some of the findings from a new, national survey commissioned by Barnes & Noble revealing summer reading plans.
To raise awareness about the survey and discuss upcoming events being held at Barnes & Noble stores around the country, Barnes & Noble partnered with D S Simon Media and Your Update TV on a nationwide media tour featuring Stephanie Fryling, VP, Merchandising, Children’s Books at Barnes & Noble.
Fryling discussed how Barnes & Noble has paired the hottest books with great events from June through August that will make book discovery and reading fun. Some of those highlighted events and books included:
• A June 29th event brining books and video games together for an event called “Game On”. During this event, kids will find books related to popular games like Pokemon and Minecraft, as well as the latest from the hit Popular MMOs series, Enter the Mine.
• Graphic Novels are hugely popular right now and a great way to get kids reading. That’s why on July 20 Barnes & Noble is hosting Graphix Con. This event will have fun activities along with great deals on graphic novels, like the newest book from Terri Libenson, Just Jaime.
• Kids Book Hangout will be happening on August 10. At these seasonal events, Barnes & Noble introduces kids to new books and characters they’ll love. In August, they’ll find books like Escape from the Isle of the Lost, based on a new Disney movie.
To keep your kids reading this summer, bring them to your local Barnes & Noble and talk to one of their knowledgeable booksellers.
