Freed-Hardeman University invites guests to attend the 89th Annual Bible Lectureship, "Promise and Providence: A Faith Journey Through Genesis," March 16-20.
HENDERSON, Tenn., Jan. 9, 2025 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Freed-Hardeman University invites guests to attend the 89th Annual Bible Lectureship, "Promise and Providence: A Faith Journey Through Genesis," an enriching experience for Christians, church leaders, families, students and all who seek spiritual growth. Normally held in February, this year's lectureship will take place March 16-20, due to large-scale renovations to Dryden Auditorium on FHU's Henderson, Tennessee, campus.
Lectureship Director Dr. Doug Burleson is eager to share in this time of study with other students and teachers of God's Word. "We believe the Lectureship is a unique opportunity for members of our campus community to host visitors from across the United States and around the world on campus for a time of study and fellowship," he said. "We want everyone to feel welcome to participate knowing the program was designed to be a blessing to all who attend."
The first book of the Bible is full of familiar stories for Christians both old and young. FHU Lectureship organizers hope to reintroduce well-known biblical figures—such as Adam and Eve, Abraham and Sarah, and Joseph—in ways that consider archeological contexts, theological messages and modern applications.
Each evening at 7:30 p.m. in Dryden Auditorium, keynote speakers will address the theme of "God's Promise and Provision." Keynote speakers and their topics include: David R. Shannon, "The God Who Offers Hope"; Melvin Otey, "The God Who Listens"; Andrew Itson, "The God Who Doesn't Demand Too Much"; Jeremie Beller, "The God Who Never Gives Up"; and Lovell Hayes, "The God Who Sees the Big Picture."
Daily chapel speakers will address FHU students and guests at 10:30 a.m. each morning to focus on the theme of "Walking in Faith." Chapel speakers include Lonnie Jones, Caleb Hammond, Jacob Evans and Kenneth Moore.
For the fifth year, FHU Lectureship will also host a Hispanic Ministry Workshop for Spanish-speaking guests Friday through Sunday, March 14-16, in Chapel Hall. A Youth and Family Workshop Monday, March 17, hosted by Ben Coleman, will feature special sessions dedicated to the ministry of children, families and youth. The College Ministry Workshop, led by Dr. Matthew Sokoloski, will help attendees grow in their ability to serve college students in a variety of contexts.
In addition to adult classes and lectures, the Kids Lectureship will also be available Monday through Thursday for toddlers through fifth graders in the Henderson Church of Christ Activity Center. This program is staffed by members of the FHU College of Education and Behavioral Sciences and the Learning Resource Library. Other classes throughout the week will be specifically designed for teen attendees in grades 6-12.
This year's appreciation dinner will be in honor of Roy and Jan Sharp, longtime FHU supporters and selfless workers in the church. Roy continues his life-long impact on FHU and Christians around the world; he and Jan worked side-by-side until her death Oct. 22, 2024. Tickets for the Tuesday evening dinner are $20 and may be purchased in advance at fhu.edu/lectureship.
As in years past, two new Bible study books for 2025 will be available for purchase during lectureship. One will feature chapters written by 14 men for a general audience, while the other book, titled "Women Walking in Faith," was written by 13 women and is especially designed for women's Bible study. Available in print, Kindle and PDF formats, the books may be purchased for $15 each through Amazon or at the Lectureship.
Open Forum is a time to study the Bible and promote critical thinking about biblical and contemporary issues of interest to God's people. The 2025 Forum will be moderated by Dr. Doug Burleson each day and will feature Dr. James Gardner and Kyle Butt as panelists with an additional guest panelist each day.
