Three Breweries in Appleton, Wisconsin, Among First to Officially Have Resilience IPA on Tap to Benefit California Camp Fire Victims
Teaming up locally, Wisconsin-based Stone Arch Brewpub, McFleshman's Brewing Co. and Appleton Beer Factory will be among the first participating breweries to officially have Resilience Butte County Proud IPA on tap at their locations today for purchase in a nationwide effort to raise funds for victims of California's devastating Camp Fire.
APPLETON, Wis., Dec. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- After brewing a batch of Resilience Butte County Proud IPA as part of a collaborative effort to benefit Camp Fire victims in California, three participating breweries in Appleton, Wisconsin, will be among the first to officially have the special recipe on tap and available for purchase at their locations today.
Leaders at Stone Arch Brewpub, McFleshman's Brewing Co. and Appleton Beer Factory came together when they heard about a plea from Ken Grossman, founder of California-based Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. – a company that's headquartered in Chico in the heart of the area that's been devastated by the raging wildfire. Grossman called upon breweries throughout the United States to re-create his company's Resilience IPA brew recipe, serve it at their locations and donate 100% of proceeds to the fire relief efforts.
The three Appleton breweries were quick to respond.
They purchased the necessary supplies and ingredients and brought together joint staff at Stone Arch Brewpub on November 27 – also recognized as Giving Tuesday – to brew a batch of Resilience IPA.
Discussing some sort of collaboration in the past, the Camp Fire fundraiser was what ultimately brought the breweries together. "This was an easy decision," said Bobby Fleshman, owner/brewer at McFleshman's Brewing Co. "There was no hesitation in whether or not our breweries should team up and get involved with such a worthy cause."
After the brewing process was complete, the beer was fermented, filtered and prepared for consumption. Steve Lonsway, president of Stone Arch Brewpub, said he anticipates the Resilience IPA will be available for the next two to three weeks.
The Camp Fire – described as the most destructive wildfire in California history – is now fully contained. It has killed 85 people, destroyed more than 150,000 acres of land, leveled nearly 14,000 homes and displaced thousands of residents.
"I think most people who've been following the news on California's Camp Fire have been looking for a way to help after seeing all of the devastation," Lonsway said. Ben Fogle, head brewer and director of brewpub operations at Appleton Beer Factory, shared, "It's amazing to think how much the proceeds could add up to through the simple purchase of a glass of beer." He added, "We know Appleton is a compassion-filled community and hope to see a lot of people come in over the next few weeks to show their support for the Camp Fire victims."
To date, more than 1,000 breweries across the United States are participating in the fundraising effort initiated by Sierra Nevada, including 25 in Wisconsin.
