Beginning this month, Re:THINK debuts in the freezer sections of Whole Foods, Raley's, Lucky, Nob Hill Foods and Nugget Markets in Northern California and Bel Air Markets in the greater Sacramento area, in addition to Draeger's, Mollie Stone's Markets and other independent supermarkets throughout the Bay Area. Re:THINK offers an ice cream experience that's just as satisfying as traditional premium ice cream but has approximately half the calories, one-third of the sugar and one-third of the carbohydrates, is low glycemic and is loaded with protein, prebiotic fiber, anti-inflammatories and antioxidants.
Founder and Managing Partner George Haymaker started Re:THINK Ice Cream after many years of struggling with and recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. "When I went into recovery, my mind and body screamed out for the sugar that was suddenly gone from the absence of alcohol," said Haymaker. "I started to overdo it on unhealthy treats, especially ice cream, and my body began to show the deleterious effects of eating sweets with high amounts of calories and sugar."
As a recovering alcoholic and addict, Haymaker had to "rethink" his life and his lifestyle choices to become and stay sober. Re:THINK is Haymaker's way of helping people make healthier choices without sacrificing the experience, flavor or quality of an indulgent ice cream.
Re:THINK reduces its sugar content per serving by using natural agave syrup, which is three to four times sweeter than regular sugar and requires less to achieve the same sweetening effect. The company does not use any sugar alcohol or artificial sweeteners to sweeten its products. The ice cream packs in eight grams of protein per serving by mixing 100 percent isolate whey protein into a Real California Milk base. Re:THINK also incorporates non-caffeinated green tea extract into each of its flavors for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Finally, the ice cream includes organic inulin, a prebiotic fiber that helps to promote a healthy gut and regular digestion.
With flavors like Cardamom Pistachio, Turmeric Ginger, Coconut Matcha and Meyer Lemon Poppyseed, Re:THINK is also "rethinking" traditional ice cream flavors.
