LOS ANGELES, June 7, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Based on the incredible true story of one of the most courageous acts in world history, 'The Islands' hits theaters in the U.S. on September 20, 2019.
Immortalized by Sir Alfred Lord Tennyson, 'The Islands' is based on the true story of a Hawaiian queen who found Christ over two hundred years ago and challenged the volcano god by going into an active volcano. It's considered one of the greatest acts of moral courage by a world leader.
"Her courageous act brought the entire island to Christ," says Director Tim Chey. "So excited to show this film to the world. Christ changed my life from an embittered atheist to a Believer so I know exactly what the Hawaiian chiefess went through back in the early 1800's."
The film was shot entirely in Hawaii with Chey and his team scouting every island and shooting a large part at Kualoa Ranch where they filmed 'Jurassic Park'.
Oscar-Award winning actress Mira Sorvino plays one of the Boston missionaries to arrive into Hawaii in 1821. The film has received a lot of positive media attention for using Native Hawaiians/Polynesians in the lead roles.
"I was thrilled to work with Mira on this film," says Director Tim Chey. "She was so courageous and even did her own stunt work in rescuing a villager in the rain and riding a horse."
Sorvino also starred opposite Ricky Sua'ava, Teuria Shanti Napa, , Malia Marquez, Michael Camp, Lehi Makisi Falepapalangi, and legendary actor John Savage.
Chey runs the third largest faith-based movie company in the U.S and has produced/directed over 13 feature films.
Chey just returned from the Cannes where he screened his latest film, '20 Minutes' also filmed in Hawaii about an incoming nuclear missile to Hawaii that changes twelve character's lives when they find out they have 20 minutes to live.
"I hope every single person on the planet sees this amazing, untold story about this brave Hawaiian leader," says Chey. "It will change their life forever. God is real and He's coming sooner than we think."
