Trisha Brazeal still tears up when she recalls those terrifying days in March when she led her unit in receiving and treating their first COVID-19 patients.
“I remember when my administrator came with the news: ‘We will be turning your unit into an ICU by tomorrow morning.’ So many emotions flooded in. ‘What staff are going to work there? What supplies do we need? How are we going to do this?’ I felt sick and scared. I have an extensive ICU background, but nothing could have prepared me for what was to come. That day we hit the ground running,” recounts Brazeal, who recently told her story during a Tipton Health webinar dedicated to the personal stories of nurses battling COVID from the front lines of U.S. hospitals.
As part of Tipton’s webinar series dedicated to nursing and healthcare professionals, Tipton featured six nurse narratives during a special November 10 webinar. Nurses, including Brazeal, from hospitals and health systems around the country shared their personal firsthand accounts of their fight with an audience of healthcare leaders and frontline staff.
Tipton Health has also recently launched a storytelling platform where nurses can make their voice heard by sharing their experiences as frontline COVID-19 caregivers. On the webpage these courageous nurses’ narratives can be viewed by the healthcare community at-large — a resource that other healthcare professionals can turn to for comfort, strength and assurance that they are not alone in their fight against this global pandemic.
If you have a story to tell or know a healthcare professional who does, please share your stories at nurseherostories.com.
“The selfless dedication and bravery that nurses across the world have displayed is truly awe-inspiring,” said Dan Tipton, president and CEO of Tipton Health Communications. “It is an honor and privilege to share these nursing stories from the frontlines.”
