Top Echelon Contracting Releases 2013 Contract Placement Statistics
Canton, OH (PRWEB) January 23, 2014 -- Contract staffing experienced a record-breaking year as companies worked to contain costs and achieve workforce flexibility in the face of economic uncertainty and political instability. Contract placement statistics from Top Echelon Contracting (TEC), a nationwide contract staffing back-office, show that contract staffing was especially popular in the following industries in 2013:
• Healthcare - 31%
• Business Professionals and Support Staff - 20%
• Engineering and Manufacturing - 15%
• Information Technology - 13%
• Finance and Accounting - 12%
• HR/Legal/Recruiting - 7%
• Sales/Marketing - 2%
As expected, contract staffing remained strong in traditional healthcare, but placements also crossed over into Information Technology and Engineering for Biomedical and Health IT placements, said TEC President Debbie Fledderjohann.
“Traditional healthcare comprises a large portion of our placements because we are one of the few contract staffing back-office providers that has the ability to place healthcare professionals,” Fledderjohann said. “These placements involve a complex mix of licensing, certifications, immunizations, skills checklists, and training.”
The biggest increases in contract placements were recorded in the Engineering/Manufacturing and Information Technology fields. As both industries clamored for highly skilled professionals, they often turned to contractors rather than direct hires due to the nature of the work. Fledderjohann said these industries are helping to drive a trend toward a new blended workforce in which companies utilize both direct hires and contractors as part of a deliberate business strategy. In this new workforce model, companies typically maintain a core of direct hires which is supported by a large outer ring of contractors that can easily be increased or decreased based on business needs.
