In an effort to enter the U.S. market, a group of innovative Korean startups participated in a virtual startup pitch event, which was hosted by KIC Washington, D.C. and VentureNest Partners.
SILICON VALLEY, Calif. and WASHINGTON, Dec. 16, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- As Korea continues to ramp up the magnitude of innovation in various industries, ten innovative Korean startups took the opportunity to prominently feature their products and solutions in front of potential investors via Zoom on December 8, 2020.
The 2020 KICDC STARTUP PITCH DAY was successfully hosted by the Korean Innovation Center (KIC) Washington D.C., a non-profit organization funded by the Korean government with the mission of creating and improving the global startup ecosystem, alongside a partnership with VentureNest Partners offering a great opportunity to learn about the ten presenting startups through their various pitches.
The ten participating startups were selected from various industry verticals, ranging from AI, Machine Learning, Biotech, Cannabis cultivation smart farming tech, AR/VR, Healthcare devices, as well as other disruptive technologies and solutions. The goal of the event was for each of the ten presenting companies to understand the dynamics of the U.S. market and properly pitch their respective products to the audience in the hopes of attracting potential investors, buyers, distributors, and strategic partners in the U.S. as well as receiving immediate constructive feedback from an immensely qualified panel of judges made up of angel investors and VCs from Silicon Valley.
The ten featured startups have participated in KIC Washington, D.C.'s '2020 KIC Gov-Tech program' since March this year. During the startup accelerating program, each company was expertly trained to improve their ability to read the U.S. market dynamics, an essential key for potential expansion into the country.
"I am very pleased that the participating companies attracted attention from the investment community in Silicon Valley through this virtual pitch event. I hope Korean tech companies alongside our potential partners and investors start the discussion for the future growth and strategic partnership of entering to the U.S. market together," said Mr. Jung Moon, General Director at KIC Washington, D.C.
In addition to live pitches, the virtual event featured a Fireside Chat session on 'Raising Funds in the Virtual World' which discussed Venture fundraising needs in terms of different tactics and approaches due to how arduous and time-consuming the process is during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Fireside Chat session was moderated by Jim Connor, an Angel Investor at Sand Hill Angels and joined by Silicon Valley VCs Robert Neivert (Venture Partner, 500 Startups), Alicia Castillo Holley (Founder/Investor, Wealthing VC Club), and Nuno Gonçalves Pedro (Founder/Managing Partner, Strive Capital).
"This event, in my opinion and experience, was of a superior quality and did far more to advance the presentation skills of the participating entrepreneurs that any other event I recall participating in. I enjoyed the interaction and the diversity of comments," said Jim Connor, an Angel Investor at Sand Hill Angels and Moderator of the pitch event. Nuno Gonçalves Pedro, Founder/Managing Partner at Strive Capital also comments, "Really interesting event and definitely very high-quality start-ups and pitches."
This event has also provided a great opportunity for the audience to get together virtually with CVCs, Investors, academic & technology thought leaders, startup incubators & accelerators, entrepreneurs, scientists by actively engaging in the networking and Q&A sessions.
"I hope the presenting companies will gain some insight into establishing a global profile as well as how to improve their ability to pitch their products and solutions on both a local and global scale," comments VentureNest Partners Founder & CEO Stephanie Son.
Through KIC Washington, D.C.'s '2020 KIC Gov-Tech' acceleration program and this unique virtual pitch event experience, the ten featured startups were able to move one step closer towards making a difference in the tech community in the United States.
"It was such a fantastic event with time well spent, and these teams have now had their first good taste of how things work in the U.S. market." said Rex Northen, CEO of Merexa LLC and Emcee of the pitch event.
KIC Washington, D.C. has emphasized that it was meaningful for each participating company in that this was a continuous attempt to be made to support innovative Korean startups in their attempt to reach the global stage. The ten featured startups are expected to expand their markets into the U.S. and are ready to sign an NDA / MOU with local partners and distributers in the near future.
