TPA Independent Pharmacy Academy Welcomes PBA Health/Texas TrueCare
Recognizing the need for independent pharmacists in Texas to band together and speak with one voice, Texas TrueCare, the legislative advocacy brand of PBA Health, is joining forces under the banner of the Texas Pharmacy Association's Independent Pharmacy Academy for its legislative and regulatory advocacy activity.
AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 21, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Recognizing the need for independent pharmacists in Texas to band together and speak with one voice, Texas TrueCare, the legislative advocacy brand of PBA Health, is joining forces under the banner of the Texas Pharmacy Association's Independent Pharmacy Academy for its legislative and regulatory advocacy activity.
In June, TPA announced the launch of its Independent Pharmacy Academy in a bold move to strengthen and unite the voice of independent pharmacy in the Lone Star State. Since then, the Alliance of Independent Pharmacists of Texas and the Texas Independent Pharmacies Association have voted to unite with TPA and join the Academy.
The Academy will improve pharmacy's ability to advocate for critical issues in Texas, such as meaningful Pharmacy Benefit Manager reform legislation, that are especially important to the sustainability of independent pharmacies.
For more than 30 years, PBA Health, along with its predecessor Legend Pharmacies Southwest, has supported Texas independent pharmacy and independent pharmacy's advocacy efforts.
"We recognize that consolidating efforts with the Texas Pharmacy Association is the best way to advance independent pharmacy's legislative priorities in Texas in a more robust and effective manner," said Brian Bates, R.Ph, a PBA Health board member. "Independent pharmacy, working together, has the strength and resources to influence state officials."
In addition to providing a more unified voice for effective pharmacy advocacy in Texas, the Academy aims to advance independent community pharmacy practice by creating a forum to share innovative and entrepreneurial practices, discuss business challenges, and identify solutions. "Being a second-generation pharmacist myself and also licensed in Texas, I am committed to our profession practicing to the full extent of our education and expertise," said Nick Smock, R.Ph., CEO of PBA Health.
Academy Chair Aaron Gibson, Pharm.D., welcomes the support. "We are pleased to have PBA Health support our independent pharmacy advocacy efforts and have Texas TrueCare join under the TPA banner," Gibson said. "Our members realize that we can accomplish more when we work together to achieve common goals."
