According to Gartner Inc. analysts in Market Guide for Digital Business Consulting Services, a business ecosystem is defined as “a dynamic network of entities (people, businesses and things) interacting with each other to create and exchange sustainable value for participants.”

Most business ecosystems include stakeholders and participants from an array of businesses and organizations. Therefore, modeling a business ecosystem requires multi-party cross-organization collaboration and tends to be a highly iterative process.
