Las Vegas Car Accident Lawyer Matthew E. Aaron Weighs in on Report about Rising Traffic Accident Fatality Rates in Nevada

Aaron, who co-founded Aaron & Paternoster in 1996, based his comments on a January 5 article, “Traffic deaths drop in Clark County but rise statewide.” The article indicates that while the state Public Safety and Transportation departments found fatality rates to have fallen in Clark County, the amount of traffic accident fatalities increased statewide in 2014.
“At Aaron & Paternoster, we applaud the efforts of law enforcement officials and Nevada drivers who contributed to Clark County’s decline in traffic accident fatalities over the course of 2014,” Aaron said. “However, we understand more work must be done in Las Vegas and across Nevada to reduce traffic accident fatality rates.”
According to the Las Vegas Sun article, there were 284 traffic accident fatalities in Nevada in 2014, representing a seven percent increase from 2013. The article indicates that in Clark County, accident fatalities fell from 190 in 2013 to 170 in 2014, with the increase in traffic accident fatalities primarily occurring in Washoe County and parts of rural Nevada.
In addition, the Las Vegas Sun reported that the state Public Safety and Transportation departments found that alcohol-related fatalities in Clark County dropped from 62 in 2013 to 45 in 2014 and that both pedestrian accident fatalities and motorcycle accident fatalities decreased from 2013 to 2014.
“Drivers in Las Vegas and throughout Nevada must maintain safe driving habits at all times. Don’t drive under the influence of alcohol. Put your cell phone down and avoid texting. Adhere to state speed limits and traffic signals,” Aaron said. “Driver safety is a responsibility shared by all. Drivers who fail to adhere to state traffic laws and injure other drivers, cyclists or pedestrians as a result must be held accountable.
