Trailblazing Poet Marilyn Lewis-Alim's Newest Collection "Seeking Al-Nur (The Light)" Offers Poems of Resilience and Determination
Recent release "Seeking Al-Nur (The Light)" from Page Publishing author, and longtime educator, Marilyn Lewis-Alim, is a book of poetry that celebrates her career as a journalist, educator, poet, and a Black woman in academia and the arts for nearly five decades.
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., March 18, 2019 -- Marilyn Lewis-Alim, a one-time Chair of the National League of American Pen Women, Inc., who was the first African-American woman to work on the copy desk of The Columbia Record in South Carolina, and first African-American editorial researcher at Reader's Digest has completed her new book "Seeking Al-Nur (The Light)": a collection of previously published and newly written pieces of poetry.
"Somewhere between trees and black holes, I find that peace lies in a free spirit and a determination to have one's soul be in sync with the universe and one's heart to be open to the risk of heartbreak," Marilyn Lewis-Alim summarized the intent behind this most recent collection of poetry. "This is a collection of poems about resilience and acknowledgment of life as a learning journey."
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Marilyn Lewis-Alim's various poems do not fall into any one category of style or another. Ranging from traditional styles to highly unique free-verse, these poems explore the tender aspects of humanity—love, the loss of it, success, the absence of it—as well as something metaphysical.
"Beneath one's spirit is one's soul," Marilyn Lewis-Alim said in her foreword. "The soul is sacred, sensed. The search for inner peace is universal as is the desire to "save" one's soul during the course of our life's journey. We are each given paths on our journey. Poetry is but one path for exploration and seeking."
Readers who wish to join the poet on her journey of the soul, of heartbreak, and discovering the self can purchase "Seeking the Light (Al-Nur)" at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play or Barnes and Noble.
