Transforming the Lives of Teens Through The Feinberg & Waller Mock Trial Leadership Award
Feinberg & Waller, a professional corporation, is proud of the firm's dedication to social impact; however, they strive to continually do more to responsibly address inequality and disparities in our society.
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 9, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- As a family law firm, Feinberg & Waller has seen and understands how preconceived notions and bias disparagingly affects Black communities, all communities of color (BIPOC), the LGBTQIA+ community, and disabled individuals. Feinberg & Waller is taking action by committing to help advance racial equality and economic opportunity by further investing in transforming the lives of young people.
Feinberg & Waller is pleased to establish an annual award to honor a student leader involved in the Constitutional Rights Foundation Los Angeles County Mock Trial Competition, a non-profit, non-partisan educational foundation. Marshall Waller (a partner of Feinberg & Waller and a Certified Family Law Specialist) is an attorney, author and educator. In 2008, Mr. Waller became affiliated with the mock trial program by helping form the Oaks Christian High School, Mock Trial Team (competing through the Ventura County Office of Education, partnered with the Constitutional Rights Foundation) alongside Laura Mason, team advisor and coach. For more than a decade, he has served as a volunteer attorney coach teaching about the law, presentation, and courtroom demeanor. The firm is excited to serve their community by creating The Feinberg & Waller Mock Trial Leadership Award that will amplify teen voice and action by highlighting one student each year who has made an impact on their team and community!
This leadership award will be a mentorship program. The award will preference students who have displayed leadership both on their mock trial team and in their community, who are rising juniors in high school, and are BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and/or Disabled students, or active allies to any of these mentioned communities. In the mentorship sessions, the firm will work with this student and their team to help educate and coach them for the competition. The firm will also devote time to share knowledge, expertise, and advice on becoming a lawyer, what the field of law looks like, networking, establishing a resume, etc. The goal is that each year a new student will be added to this network of young leaders. They will be able to seek guidance from Feinberg & Waller and from one another. The details of the monetary award and mentorship/leadership program can be found on the Community Outreach page: https://www.feinbergwaller.com/community-outreach/
