Trashcan Lid Productions Expands Staff and Programs
Eliot, ME (PRWEB) August 30, 2013 -- Trashcan Lid Productions, the New England-based creator of educational programs built on music and percussion, has brought in musician Skip Brunette, a 20-year teaching veteran. As well, the highly acclaimed group has developed a new artist-in-residence program which addresses bullying in schools.
Trashcan Lid Productions made a name for themselves with their dynamic "Junk 2 Funk" program, in which school-kids of all ages learn self-empowerment lessons while entertaining audiences with percussive performances on found objects. From their home base in Eliot ME, Trashcan Lid Productions is expanding its staff, its programs, and its reach. This month they've completely revamped and re-launched their website, as well as brought on an additional instructor and spearheaded a brand new educational program for elementary and middle schools. Trashcan Lid Productions founder, Jeff Erwin says, "We've had really good response from our programs in the past, the kids and teachers just love it. With the addition of new talent and our new program we're looking to really expand our reach."
They've recently added musician Skip Brunette to their crew, a twenty-year teaching veteran who began writing songs as part of his curriculum in 2005, and went on to form the popular band Todo Bien in 2008. Now with 3 full-length albums to add to his B.A., M.Ed., Brunette is excited to bring his unique experience back to the classroom and help students reach their full potential. "Skip's the real deal," said Erwin. "He's talented, compassionate. He feels very strongly about his work and it really comes through. He's one of those guys that you know can make a real difference for these kids. We're lucky and psyched to have him on board."
Brunette's experience with coaching, conflict management and peer mediation are sure to come in handy with Trashcan Lid's new Sticks and Stones program. It's an immersive week-long course for grades K–8 that uses performance art, music and language arts to tackle the challenges of bullying. Erwin explains, "The program engages participants in fun, meaningful, and self-reflective activities which get the kindness ball rolling." It offers children perspectives on how to deal with bullies, and alternatives to exhibiting bullying behavior of their own. The residency culminates with an exhilarating multimedia performance in which the students demonstrate what they've learned, and how they plan to use it as they grow.
Trashcan Lid Productions has made sure to incorporate the recently mandated bullying program standards of dozens of States, and are available for customized residencies across New England and beyond. "We got a call recently from a school in California," Erwin laughs, "I don't know if I'm ready to drive to California for just one school. Ten schools, maybe. We have a gig coming up in Pennsylvania, though. We'll do that. We can travel."
