DENVER, Dec. 16, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The online guide Travel Lemming has revealed its annual list of the 50 best places to travel in 2022, spotlighting emerging destinations around the world.
The list urges travelers to avoid a "return to the overtourism era of the 2010s" and to instead "appreciate all of Planet Earth's beautiful destinations, even those in our own backyards."
Topping the list is Querétaro, one of the safest states in Mexico and an area that has seen a recent uptick of interest in wine tourism.
Reflecting the challenges of the continuing pandemic, the list highlights many domestic and outdoors-friendly destinations, such as Washington state's North Cascades National Park, the second entry on the list.
Rounding out the top 5 are Prince Edward Island, Canada's smallest province, the tiny mountain town of Silverton, Colorado, and Aguada, a coastal town in Puerto Rico.

Destinations were selected by Travel Lemming's team of 15 travel writers and editors.
"Remember when the pandemic broke out, the cruise ships stopped, and the canals of Venice ran clear? The popular take online was that the global shutdown would afford us an opportunity to reset, rethink how and where we travel, and reconsider the excesses of the prior decade," said Travel Lemming founder Nate Hake.
"2022 will be the year that the travel community collectively decides what the new normal for global tourism looks like. Where we travel matters, and there are many more deserving destinations than most people realize even exist. Our hope with publishing this list is to bring attention to places that are especially deserving of your dollars as the global travel industry rebuilds," Mr. Hake continued.
