Things to do Labor Day weekend
South Coast Plaza, the largest shopping destination on the west coast has reopened its doors. With hundreds of specialty boutiques, brands like Prada, Hermes and Gucci, plus more than 20 restaurants offering al fresco dining, including those helmed by celebrity chefs, a day at South Coast Plaza is a great way to beat the heat. For shoppers seeking a more personalized service, the recently opened Pavilion at South Coast Plaza features 14 private, open-air suites for shopping by appointment only. September 4, 5 and 6: The OC Fair Food Drive-Thru, Friday and Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. For the foodies out there or those that missed attending the county fairs this summer, this is a perfect opportunity to enjoy the nostalgic treats like giant turkey legs, hot dog or cheese on a stick, roasted corn and all the deep-fried favorites, like Oreo cookies and Snickers bars. September 5: From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., explore the Certified Farmers Market at SOCO and The OC Mix. Shop for exotic fruits, a variety of locally grown vegetables, free-range eggs, meats and nuts as well as local vendors selling soaps and jewelry. SOCO and The OC Mix also features a brand-new outdoor dining garden. Restaurants like Greenleaf Kitchen and Cocktails or Shuck Oyster Bar offer to-go meals and Portola Coffee and Birdy Bowl Juicery and great breakfast spots.

September 6: The OC Maker’s Mart at The LAB Anti-Mall from noon to 4 p.m. will feature artists, crafters and creative small business owners from all over Orange County. This outdoor shopping and dining spot features various retailers as well as plenty of restaurants with outdoor dining, a coffee shop and brewery.

Hit the beach
Situated close to the Pacific Coast, two popular beaches near Costa Mesa are Huntington Beach and Newport Beach. It’s just a short drive, and each location features miles of sandy beaches and a harbor where visitors can rent stand-up paddle boards, kayaks, electric boats, or just relax and enjoy the coastal breezes. Bike rentals and maps around Costa Mesa are also available and can take you to the beach.
