Tree Walkers International brings Creepy Crawlies and Conservation to San Diego
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) March 12, 2014 -- On Friday March 28th and Saturday March 29th, Tree Walkers International will collaborate with hobbyists from the amphibian, reptile, and aquatics industries to offer a fascinating and educational look into the animals they love. The MICROCOSM conference will begin with a free keynote lecture, Friday at 7:00pm in the Sheraton Mission Valley San Diego Hotel Compass Ballroom. The topic is Conservation Through Travel: The Importance of Culture and Education. Saturday’s schedule will include a vendor show and exhibition featuring a wide variety of captive-bred/sustainably collected flora, fauna and vivarium/aquarium supplies as well as several workshops and lectures throughout the day. A live auction will take place at 3:00pm with all proceeds going towards conservation programs within Tree Walkers International. Saturday’s Admission is $10. In addition, Tree Walkers International has scheduled field trips and behind-the-scenes tours for attendees at places like the San Diego Zoo. This is the 3rd annual MICROCOSM conference for Tree Walkers International and their 2nd year in San Diego. “Southern California boasts a large network of amphibian, fish and specialty plant hobbyists,” said TWI Director Ron Skylstad. “Given its proximity to so many wonderful natural environments--from the desert to the ocean-- and natural history inspired locations, San Diego is the perfect city in which to hold MICROCOSM.” Past MICROCOSM conferences have presented close-up views of brilliantly colored poison dart frogs, exotic geckos, bizarre and beautiful saltwater fish, as well as a plethora of rarely seen orchids and other uncommon plants. Most of these curiosities were even for sale. Artwork, books, and other hobby related items are also commonly for sale.
Tree Walkers International has been a solid presence within the captive animal husbandry hobby for several years. Their goal is to promote conservation and restoration of wild amphibian populations through hands on action. Collaborating with hobbyists provides an opportunity to work with people who have a tremendous passion for these animals. The artistic side of this hobby is unmatched. These hobbyists create beautiful masterpieces using the "glass box" as a medium for expression inspired by the natural world.
