This year, the team acknowledges Trentino with the prestigious award, recognizing it for its unique and diverse territory. Boasting 10,000 hectares and representing just 1.6% of the vine-covered area in Italy, Trentino produces internationally acclaimed wines thanks to the work of 164 wineries and 7,000 winemakers, who make still wines from native and international grape varieties, and Trentodoc sparkling wines.

In the region of Trentino, 70% of the land can be found at over 3,200 feet, 20% above 6,500 feet, and 94 peaks exceeding 9,800 feet in altitude. Give this unique environment, winemakers grow grapes (77% white and 23% red overall) often on small parcels of land amid the mountains. Trentino produces one million hectolitres of wine annually, of which 80% is used to produce DOC wine; this is one of the highest percentages of use on a national scale.
The wineries of Trentino continue to play an increasingly prominent role in the conversation of high-quality and sustainability. By applying the principles of integrated viticulture in the vineyard and throughout the production process, the wineries are actively involved in protecting the environment, their workers, and the consumers. A national quality system of integrated production, SQNPI, is practiced by 80% of the wineries in Trentino, the only example of a regional model of sustainable agriculture in Italy, and 12% practice organic farming methods. About Trentodoc: Founded in 1984, the Istituto Trentodoc promotes and safeguards the wines of Trentodoc, a denomination that now represents 57 sparkling wine producers from the Trentino region in northern Italy.
