Trentino, Italy has been nominated for the 2020 Wine Region of the Year by Wine Enthusiast as part of the publication’s annual Wine Star Awards. A tradition dating back over twenty years, Wine Enthusiast’s editors honor people, wineries and destinations that have made significant contributions to the world of wine, and those who have made commitments towards continued growth, innovation, and sustainability. Wine Star Award nominees all share certain attributes that merit this great recognition including vigor, accountability, and a vision of the future – and Trentino, Italy is setting the bar high.

Located in northern Italy amidst the Dolomite mountain range is Trentino, home to exceptional, terrior- driven sparkling and still wines. Among the various local offerings from the region is Trentodoc, Italy’s leading classic method sparkling wine made from Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Nero and Meunier. With vineyards as high as 2,500 feet above sea level, these unique growing conditions and mountain climate give the wines their distinct personality as a true expression of the land. The region of Trentino is also home to Trentino DOC, which includes a wide variety still wines that represent the identity of the wine making culture in the area.

The wineries of Trentino continue to play an increasingly prominent role in the conversation of high-quality wine in the US and look forward to continuing their venture in the American market. The nomination from Wine Enthusiast represents years of hard work, and the community of wine professionals in the region is honored to be recognized for their continued efforts, especially among such a stellar group of destinations including Adelaide Hill (Australia), Mendoza (Argentina), Rías Baixas (Spain), and Santa Barbara County (California). The winner will be announced on the Wine Enthusiast website on November 11th.

About Trentodoc: Founded in 1984, the Istituto Trentodoc promotes and safeguards the wines of Trentodoc, a denomination that now represents 57 sparkling wine producers from the Trentino region in northern Italy. Giulio Ferrari first began producing sparkling wine there in 1902 after visiting the Champagne region of France. The Trentodoc denomination was established in 1993 and is the first Italian DOC to produce only Classic Method sparkling wines. In 2007, the collective Trentodoc trademark was created, allowing the sparkling wines of Trentino designated as Trento D.O.C. to use it, thereby relaying the origin, connection with the territory, and excellence of Italy’s unique sparkling wine.
