NEW YORK, Oct. 18, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Trepp, a leading provider of data, insights, and technology solutions to structured finance, commercial real estate, and banking markets, announced today the launch of its inaugural Innovation Challenge, in partnership with NYU Stern's C.H. Chen Institute for Global Real Estate Finance.
The Challenge will encourage students to explore innovative solutions to a diverse range of issues facing the commercial real estate industry as it evolves to address the needs of its members, investors, lenders, and the public at large.
"Launching the Innovation Challenge is an exciting initiative from the Education Segment," said Erin Timko, Trepp's Director of Academic and Industry Relations. "Our goal is to provide individuals with the tools and resources to ignite change in our industry. Partnering with NYU on this program enhances our efforts to collaborate with students and professors."
Participants in Trepp's Innovation Challenge will need to be creative, solving solutions to several problems including:
- How buildings can leverage technology and data to reduce their environmental impact, whether in energy, health, water, waste, or infrastructure demands.
- How commercial real estate can leverage technology and data to better respond to changing conditions in the physical environment.
- How technology and data can facilitate the repurposing or adaptation of commercial real estate when it needs to be repurposed.
- How Affordability and Inclusion can be applied to buildings and communities to make real estate more affordable and open to more members of the community.
"The real estate industry has never been more open to new ideas and approaches than it is today," said Dr. Sam Chandan, Professor of Finance and Director of NYU Stern's C.H. Chen Institute for Global Real Estate Finance. "I am grateful to Trepp for their long legacy of innovation and for this latest investment in ideas from students and faculty at universities around the world."
Participants will be asked to submit a one-page description of their topic by 5:00 pm eastern time on Friday, November 11, 2022.
Judges include Dr. Stephen Buschbom, Research Director at Trepp, Dr. Sam Chandan, Director, C.H. Chen Institute for Global Real Estate Finance and Professor of Finance at NYU Stern School of Business, Richard Jones, Partner at Dechert, Annelise Osborne, Head of Institutional at Arca Labs, and Lea Overby, Head of CMBS Research at Barclays.
