Trident University International Vice Provost, Health Sciences Dean Nominated to Public Health Association Council
Cypress, CA (PRWEB) April 28, 2015 -- Dr. Holly Orozco, Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness and Dean of the College of Health Sciences and the College of Education at Trident University International (Trident) was recently nominated to serve on the 2015 Governing Council of the Southern California Public Health Association (SCPHA).
The SCPHA, an affiliate of the American Public Health Association (APHA), provides public health leadership through the promotion of policy efforts, education, and public awareness. The APHA, founded in 1872, unites experts from all fields of public health in the promotion of public health issues and policies backed by science.
Dr. Orozco will serve as President Elect, as part of a three-year term. This term will see her serve as President Elect this year, President in 2016, and Immediate Past President the following year. In 2014 she was elected to serve as Vice President of the Governing Council of the SCPHA. Additionally, she continues to serve on the National Board of Education for the American Public Health Association.
These are key opportunities for both her and Trident, as her goal is to continue being a leader in both academics and public health. Viewing educators as leaders, Dr. Orozco is an advocate for enhanced public health training through strategic alignment with schools of public health and institutions with standalone public health programs.
Throughout both her career as an academic leader in higher education and public health practitioner, Dr. Orozco has seized and excelled in leadership roles. Leveraging her positions, she has been an agent of change for public health causes about which she is passionate, including alcohol and substance abuse prevention.
In 2007, while serving as the Chair of Arizona’s Underage Drinking Prevention Committee and Senior Advisor on Substance Abuse Policy for Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano’s Executive Office, Dr. Orozco received the Governor’s Award for Preventing & Reducing Drunk Driving in Arizona.
Dr. Orozco has been a member of Trident’s faculty since 2008 and has been serving the University as Dean of the College of Health Sciences and the College of Education since March 2012. In December 2014, she was also appointed as the Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness. Dr. Orozco has 10 years of progressive leadership within WASC accredited institutions of higher education. Prior to serving at Trident University she held a tenure track faculty position within the College of Health and Human Services at California State University, Los Angeles.
Dr. Orozco is an advocate for enhanced public health training through strategic alignment with schools of public health and institutions with stand-alone public health programs. Trident is currently the only 100% online institution being considered for public health accreditation by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) for a stand-alone undergraduate public health degree program.
