As part of the expansion, the companies will collaborate to deploy 3,000 specialized Automato mobile IoT food locker vehicles over the next three years.
The demand for low-speed electric vehicles continues to rise across a number of applications including the last mile delivery of fresh meals, groceries, personal care items, and dry goods. Over the last year, the pandemic, small business trends, and demand for home delivery has driven rapid growth in the grocery and restaurant sectors, paired with a renewed focus to do so through more affordable, sustainable vehicle operations, are bringing new opportunities quicker than anticipated by market forecasts.
On the heels of its February 2021 strategic alliance announcement, the latest expansion has tripled the number of expected vehicle units—a collaboration valued at over $100,000,000. Together, the companies will offer the Tropos Motors ABLETM XR clean-energy vehicle platform, paired with the patented BIB Technologies IoT mobility hub locker and advanced controls and logistics software—enabling the unique ability to provide both temperature-controlled storage options, as well as mobile selling kiosks for non-perishable goods of all industries. The mobile storefronts offer businesses a zero-emissions vehicle with a low-cost entry point to create or grow their operations beyond the traditional brick and mortar storefront into off-premise locations including corporate and university campuses, hospitals, malls, sports events, parking lots, and other remote locations.
They are forecasting to jointly deliver 3,000 vehicles over the next 36 months and expect that needs will broaden beyond food delivery into the hospitality, medical, and other delivery locker applications. The platform availability is scheduled for launch in second half of 2021.
