It means so much to us to continue storytelling, while every once in a while adding the Oklahoma DNA … that’s really the icing on top.”

The newly reimagined Broadway revival of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s OKLAHOMA! took home the top award for Best Revival of a Musical at the 73rd Annual Tony Awards, held in New York City. Tony and Olivier Award-winner Square 1 Theatrics is Associate Producer of the revival. The Tony Award is considered the nation’s highest theatre honor.
In addition to the coveted award for Best Revival of a Musical, OKLAHOMA! took home the award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Ali Stroker). The production was also honored with six other nominations, including Best Leading Actor in a Musical (Damon Daunno), Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Mary Testa), Best Scenic Design of a Musical (Laura Jellinek), Best Sound Design of a Musical (Drew Levy), Best Direction of a Musical (Daniel Fish), and Best Orchestrations (Daniel Kluger).
Throughout the 2018-2019 Broadway award season, OKLAHOMA! has received a number of awards. The revival opened on Broadway on April 7, 2019 and has been recognized with widespread critical acclaim. The production is a reimagined take of the classic Rodgers & Hammerstein musical, which first premiered its groundbreaking performance on Broadway in 1943. In Fall 2020, OKLAHOMA! will embark on a national tour, which is set to begin in Oklahoma City.
Square 1 Theatrics, a Tanninger Company co-founded by Ryan Jude Tanner and Jay Krottinger, is a Tulsa-based international production company. In 2013, Tanner and Krottinger co-produced their first Broadway show, the revival of PIPPIN, and won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. Previous Tony nominations include Waitress (Best Musical Nominee – 2016) and Come From Away (Best Musical Nominee – 2017). Square 1 has 9 productions running concurrently between the U.S., London, Canada, and soon to be Australia.
“Although I was born and raised in Quincy, Illinois, Oklahoma has been home for 15 years,” said Tanner. “Jay was born and raised in Broken Arrow. We started Square 1 with Flipside: The Patti Page Story… she was born and raised in the great metropolis of Claremore! It means so much to us to continue storytelling, while every once in a while adding the Oklahoma DNA … that’s really the icing on top.”
Both Tanner and Krottinger are actively involved in the community, serving on several non-profit boards. Krottinger is also serving as interim Artist Director for Theatre Tulsa. To learn more about Square 1 Theatrics, visit square1theatrics.com.
