TULSA, Okla., March 4, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Tony, Drama Desk, and Olivier Award-winning Square 1 Theatrics has joined the production team of the highly anticipated Broadway revival of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, Oklahoma! opening at Broadway's Circle in the Square Theatre on April 7.
Jay Krottinger and Ryan Jude Tanner, co-founders of Square 1, are excited to join Tony-award winning lead producer, Eva Price (Dear Evan Hansen and Angels in America) in this new endeavor. "Needless to say, we deeply wanted to be involved in this revival. Oklahoma is our home and this musical is one of the most important and beloved in America's musical theatre history," Tanner explained. "Those roots run deep for us," Krottinger agreed. "In fact, our very first project was Flipside: The Patti Page Story, based on the life of the singing sensation from Claremore, Oklahoma. Price understood that a place on this production team was incredibly personal to us when she invited us to join her as Associate Producer."
The entire Oklahoma! pre-Broadway run, summarized by TIME Magazine as "the #1 theatrical event of the year," enjoyed a sell-out run at Saint Anne's Warehouse in Brooklyn. The reimagined revival, directed by Daniel Fish, featuring new music arrangements by Daniel Kluger, and choreography by John Heginbotham, is currently in rehearsals for the upcoming opening. Ben Brantley in the The New York Times praised the revival as, "spot-on and often illuminating."
Square 1 Theatrics, a Tanninger Company, is based in Tulsa's Kendall-Whittier Square. Square 1 is an international production company founded in 2012. Tanner and Krottinger won the 2013 Tony Award for the revival of Steven Schwartz's PIPPIN. Currently, Square 1 has two global productions running on Broadway, Tony-award winning Come From Away (2017) and Tony-nominated Waitress (2016).
Both New York productions are also on North American and international tours. Tanner and Krottinger are thrilled Waitress will perform at the Tulsa PAC from April 16-21. Come From Away opened in London's iconic West End on February 18 and Waitress will premier in London March 7. Krottinger and Tanner experienced previous London success with Tony-award winning Memphis The Musical, which won two Oliviers in 2015.
