TurnKey Vacation Rentals Ski Report 2018: Best Overall and Most Searched Mountain Resorts for Ski Season 2018
TurnKey Vacation Rentals' 2018 Ski Report finds top ski resorts reside in Colorado and Utah, and identifies most searched-for ski resorts by state.
AUSTIN, Texas, Dec. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Today, TurnKey Vacation Rentals released its 2018 Ski Report highlighting the best overall and top 5 most searched-for ski resorts for the 2018 ski season. The list was compiled based on information from 260 ski resorts in the U.S., focusing specifically on resorts with more than 15 trails based on price, number of available trails and lifts, and overall popularity of each resort.
Of the top 5, most searched-for ski resorts in 2018, three can be found in Utah while the other two are popular Colorado destinations:
1. Vail Ski Resort (Vail, CO)
2. Breckenridge Ski Resort (Breckenridge, CO)
3. Park City Mountain Resort (Park City, UT)
4. Snowbird (Snowbird, UT)
5. Deer Valley (Park City, UT)
According to the report, Colorado, California, and Utah are the top three ski and snowboard states in 2018, making up 50% of the top 100 ski resorts in the U.S. Due to high demand, visitors should expect steeper ticket prices at these top destinations – Colorado ($111.86 average), California ($84.18 average), and Utah ($89.71 average).
TurnKey Vacation Rentals compared Google Search data from August 2017 to March 2018 to find the top ski resort destinations for each U.S. state. Overall, more than half of the states included Breckenridge Ski Resort and Vail Ski Resort in their top destinations. Park City Mountain Resort was in the top three for 15 states, Snowbird was in the top three for 13 states, and Deer Valley was in the top three for 10 states.
Key factors for guests selecting a resort range from the number of trails (and their levels of difficulty) to lift ticket prices to the amount of snowfall. While more experienced skiers may look for resorts that offer the highest peak and most challenging hills, families and groups of friends tend to be more concerned about lift ticket prices.
The best overall resort in the U.S. according to TurnKey's study, Squaw Valley Ski Resort, landed in the top three for just five states. Aspen, a historically classic winter destination for skiers, has seen a recent decline in popularity. While it ranked at no. 11 for best ski markets in the study, it didn't rank in the top 3 resorts for any states.
Ski season typically starts in October and lasts until April, and resort visitors look to book their vacation rental accommodations an average of 55 days in advance. Top vacation rental booking months for ski vacations are January, October, and December.
The report also revealed that resorts in states like Minnesota, Michigan, New York, and Idaho are great fits for families or large groups looking for destination getaways with plenty of trails and affordable lift ticket prices. Each of these states boasts over 10 resorts with an average daily lift ticket price falling below $56.
