LANCASTER, Va., April 29, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Authors John Arsenault, LtCol, USMA (ret) and Thomas Gourneau, USCG document their involvement in a two-week battle during the Vietnam War in LZ Sitting Duck: The Fight for FSB Argonne ($16.49, paperback, 9781662813139; $31.49, dust jacket, 9781662813146; $8.99, e-book, 9781662813153).
Themselves two of the men who participated in "LZ Sitting Duck" in 1969, Arsenault and Gourneau relate the stories of 22 Marines over their two-week struggle to survive. Sent to retake Fire Support Base Argonne near the Laos border, they overcame nearly impossible obstacles in order to confront the North Vietnamese Army.
"I saw the need to capture and record the events of this battle as a historical work for current and future Marines to see how this battle was fought and to permanently save this story for the Marines that personally experienced it," said Arsenault.
John Arsenault returned from Vietnam and was discharged in 1970. He spent the next 30 years in Alaska working in the Alaska Prudhoe Bay oilfield and the Trans Alaska Pipeline as one of the first "Ice Road Truckers" in 1974. In 1985, Arsenault reenlisted in the USMC Reserve, Company "E", 4th Reconnaissance Bn. Anchorage, Alaska and attained Force Recon qualification. In 1990, he was field commissioned and assigned commanding officer. After 9-11-2001, Arsenault was deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq, and retired as LtCol in 2008. He resides near Chesapeake Bay, Virginia.
