Even twins have different experiences in life and perspectives about those experiences. In their debut poetry book, “Women of Wounds” (published by AuthorHouse UK), Serena and Selena Raja share a compilation of diverse poems and original illustrations that explore numerous hardships in life, including mental illness and war.

Penned individually over the course of seven years, each poem offers a raw and honest discussion of emotional distress, mental wellbeing and coming-of-age. Through the verses, readers get a unique perspective on the twin’s lives and the world around them. It is the authors’ hope to use their words to remind others that they are not alone, and raise awareness of such stigmatized issues which they personally, and many others, continue to face.

An excerpt from the poem titled “Fake Friends” reads:
So yes, losing relationships are a shame,
But there isn’t anyone to blame.
Sometimes you need to lose in order to gain.
That means some relationships may never remain.
As long you know you’re not the opinions your fake friends said,
You’ll come to terms that blood ties always fend.
My family, clear the smoke in each other’s heads.
They’re a gift from up above as everyone else left.
