HOUSTON, Oct. 7, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Today, Fire & Courage launched a Kickstarter campaign for their Maker Shirt, a premium t-shirt with over 20 features. The project's mission and sole purpose is to raise enough funds to keep a Texas textile factory in operation. The shirt is available for $39 USD early bird pricing (retail price: $59 USD) with over 85% of costs going to U.S. mills and local labor.
"COVID has decimated an industry of makers that were once the shining beacon of hope and pride in our country. What the pandemic revealed was that we need massive support for our local businesses, factories, and people, now more than ever," said Jeff Chiang, Co-Founder of Fire & Courage. "After operating for 31 years, this factory is about to close at no fault of their own. The Maker Shirt is our endeavour to help raise enough money to save our community and the jobs of the 42 textile factory workers."
On a larger scale, the company is focused on trying to revitalize the U.S. garment industry and ensure that domestic production doesn't disappear. Most of the Maker Shirt's product costs come from using high quality makers who take pride in their craftsmanship. Designed in-house from the ground up, Fire & Courage worked with an American Mill to make a custom silver-threaded fabric that is odour resistant, a blend of recycled polyester and North Carolina cotton and finished with natural dyes. Created with breathability and temperature control in mind, the Maker Shirt has stretch, dries quickly, and has interwoven layering that won't tear or fade. The seams have been reinforced with six thread flat seamed stitches (which is double what most competitors use) for extra durability and the shirt is UV resistant up to UPF 40.
"The Maker Shirt is the result of five base patterns, countless adjustments, 1.5 years of R&D, 12 different prototypes, endless samples and fit tests," continued Chiang. "We finally arrived on a fit that we love and would want to wear on a daily basis. It's tapered but not too tight. Breathable, but not too baggy. The team is excited because we have a chance to fight for a cause that is near and dear to our hearts, with a quality product."
