HENDERSON, Tenn., Sept. 13, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- U.S. News & World Report listed Freed-Hardeman University ninth in its Top Value Schools South rankings released Sept. 12, 2022, on usnews.com/colleges. FHU is the sole university supported by members of the churches of Christ to appear in this ranking.
The Best Value ranking specifically considers a school's academic quality and the 2022-23 cost of attendance for a student who received the average level of need-based financial aid.
FHU's total of 1,850 undergraduates includes 1,207 who are almost filling all residence halls. Even with the reopening of Paul Gray Hall this year, only 27 dorm rooms campus wide remain vacant.
The undergraduate full-time equivalency (FTE) of 1,632 is also an all-time high. Five- and six-year graduation rates are above the national average, as is the retention rate which shows FHU approximately 10% above the national rate. This year's total enrollment of 2,283 includes students from 34 states and 25 countries. This is the fifth consecutive year for FHU to break its record.

FHU is currently engaged in a massive renovation and building program. The highly successful FHU NEXT campaign already has funded the renovation of Paul Gray Hall, a men's residence hall, and of Laurel Cottage, an on-campus hospitality house. Groundbreaking for a new dining hall that includes a Chick-fil-A® is set for Thursday, September 22, 2022. Plans are underway to renovate Loyd Auditorium and to convert the current dining hall to the Saunders Center, which will accommodate at least nine new academic programs. This year, the university added a physical therapist assistant program and a Doctor of Ministry.
U.S. News also will publish most of the rankings with robust datasets in the "Best Colleges 2023" guidebook, which will start shipping in late October.
