U.S. News & World Report ranks Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City on list of Best Hospitals
Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) July 21, 2015 -- Saint Luke’s Hospital has been recognized on U.S. News & World Report’s 2015-16 Best Hospitals rankings, released today. The rankings, now in their 26th year, recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients.
Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City ranks No. 2 in Missouri, No. 2 in the Kansas City metro area, and is recognized among the Best Hospitals in northwestern Missouri.
Seven specialty programs of Saint Luke’s Hospital are nationally ranked in the top 50. Just 3 percent of the nearly 5,000 hospitals that were analyzed for Best Hospitals 2015-16 earned national ranking in even one specialty.
Saint Luke’s nationally ranked programs are:
• Cardiology & Heart Surgery (No. 20)
• Ear, Nose, & Throat (No. 38)
• Gastroenterology & GI Surgery (No. 37)
• Gynecology (No. 19)
• Nephrology (No. 47)
• Pulmonology (No. 42)
• Urology (No. 27)
The hospital also ranks as high-performing in three specialty areas:
• Diabetes & Endocrinology
• Geriatrics
• Neurology & Neurosurgery
• Orthopedics
“It is a tremendous honor to again be recognized by U.S. News & World Report as providing some of the best care in the nation. It is reflective of the talent and commitment of our Saint Luke’s physicians and nurses who bring the highest level of quality care to their patients each and every day,” said Julie L. Quirin, Senior Vice President of Hospital Operations for Saint Luke’s Health System. “It is especially gratifying to have seven programs recognized as being the top in the nation. This speaks to the mission of Saint Luke’s and each of our clinical team’s dedication to their specialized field and their dedication to our patients.”
For 2015-16, U.S. News evaluated hospitals in 16 adult specialties and ranked the nation’s top 50 hospitals in most of the specialties. In addition, U.S. News recognizes other high-performing hospitals that provide care at nearly the level of their nationally ranked peers.
U.S. News publishes Best Hospitals to help guide patients who need a high level of care because they face particularly difficult surgery, a challenging condition, or added risk because of age or additional health problems. Objective measures such as patient survival and safety data, the adequacy of nurse staffing levels, and other data largely determined the rankings in most specialties.
The specialty rankings and data were produced for U.S. News by RTI International, a leading research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Using the same data, U.S. News produced the state and metro rankings.
The rankings have been published at http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals and will appear in print in the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals 2016 guidebook, available in August.
