Carlsbad, California (PRWEB) July 23, 2013 -- uAttend, a leading workforce management solutions provider, is pleased to announce it will be sponsoring the annual “Rinks to Links” charity golf tournament on Sunday, August 4, 2013 in Big Rapids, MI. The event, in its sixth year now, has successfully raised more than $44,000 for the Grand Rapids Sled Wings’ hockey team.
Sled hockey is ice hockey for people with disabilities, and is a hard-hitting, competitive, intense sport. Any person with a physical disability preventing them from playing on a stand-up team is eligible to play. Programs such as sled hockey provide an amazing opportunity for people with disabilities to get out of their wheelchairs and play competitively. In addition to the workout aspect, organized sports programs for people with disabilities serve as a form of therapy and provide participants with a safe environment in which they can have fun and socialize.
The Grand Rapids Sled Wings consist of a junior and an adult team of athletes with physical disabilities. These teams are sponsored by Mary Free bed Rehabilitation Hospital’s Wheelchair and Adaptive Sports program (maryfreebed.com/sports), and supported by the generous donation of the
Rinks To Links Golf Outing. Founded in 2001, the Grand Rapids Sled Wings were the first sled hockey team in Michigan, and currently travel all over the country playing against other sled hockey teams. The goal of the Rinks to Links organization is to raise funds via an annual charity golf outing with 100% of the proceeds donated to the Grand Rapids Sled Wings to help them defray costs associated with travel, fees and other expenses.
”We are extremely appreciative of the continued support from uAttend,” said director, Jerry Julien, “Without them, we would not be able to continue to help defray the cost associated with playing sled hockey. The Sled Wings program continues to grow thanks in part to sponsors like uAttend. Some highlights from the past season include hosting the USA Women’s National Team as well as a Junior/Novice Sled Hockey Camp, playing the USA Wounded Warriors team in Cleveland, and having the junior Sled Wings finishing as National Runner-Up at the USA Disabled Hockey Festival. In addition, Susie Kluting and Chelsea Perry were named to the USA Women’s National Team and Lance Corporal Bobby Thrakill was a welcome new addition to the adult team.”
As a well-known maker of biometric time clocks, uAttend is pleased to be able to offer support to such an important and beneficial charity.
“The Sled Wings are a perfect example of both physical and mental strength, not to mention determination,” said Chad Buckmaster, CEO of uAttend. “Whether you like hockey or not, these athletes will awe and inspire you. We are pleased to sponsor the “Rinks to Links” golf tournament to help raise funds for this program and support the team.”
This year’s golf fundraiser will take place at the Falcon Head Golf Course in Big Rapids, MI. The 18-hole, 4-person scramble is priced at $75 per person, or $300 per team. Registration price includes a round of golf, dinner, door prizes, raffles, and a chance to win many more prizes throughout the day. 100% of the proceeds will go towards covering the costs of Sled Wings’ travel and equipment expenses.
