UN Women for Peace Association's Board Present UN Women With 50K Donation for UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women. At UN Headquarters in NYC.

NEW YORK, Jan. 30, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On Wednesday, January 16, 2019 UN Women for Peace Association (UNWFPA) presented to UN Women a donation of $50K to the United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women ("UN Trust Fund"). UNWFPA's Board members Barbara Winston (President) and Michal Grayevsky (Treasurer) presented UN Women's Resource Mobilization and Advocacy Managers Vesna Jaric and Charlotte Lecomte with the annual donation.

UNWFPA's President Barbara Winston spoke about supporting UN Women, "UN Women for Peace Association's aim is the empowerment of women and the elimination of violence against women and girls. The global situation is intolerable. We need to relentlessly pursue the foundations of violence against women and girls and change the dynamics that create them. Our determination, with our partners like UN Women and the UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women, is helping fuel the universal yearning for peace and equality. Since 2008, UNWFPA has supported the UN Trust Fund will continue to do so indefinitely. This UN Trust Fund awards grants to initiatives that demonstrate that violence against women and girls can be systematically addressed, reduced and, with persistence, eliminated. Since its creation in 1996, the UN Trust Fund has awarded USD 128 million to 462 initiatives in 139 countries and territories.

UNWFPA believes violence against women and girls is intolerable; yet, as you read this, five million women and girls globally are living in forced sexual exploitation, victims of human trafficking. More than 60 million girls have no access to - or are being deliberately excluded from - primary and secondary school. One in three women experience violence from an intimate partner or sexual violence from a stranger in their lifetime.

Looking ahead, UN Women for Peace Association's Annual Awards Luncheon will be held on March 1, 2019 in celebration of International Women's Day in the Delegates Dining Lounge at the United Nations Headquarters. This year UNWFPA will honor fashion designer Naeem Khan and philanthropists Albert and Deidre Pujols. The luncheon Chairs are Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly and Alice M. Tisch. Proceeds will be given to the UN Trust Fund.
