WASHINGTON, Oct. 2, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Join UNCF (United Negro College Fund) at the Howard County Leaders' Luncheon beginning at 11:30 a.m. on October 18 at Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Columbia. Corporate partners, community leaders and influencers, including keynote speaker Dr. Freeman A. Hrabrowski III, president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County will be in attendance.
Benefiting Howard County students and historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), UNCF aims to change the narrative of HBCUs across the nation while getting students to and through college and, ultimately, into the workforce.
"Events such as the Howard County Leaders' Luncheon are vitally important to the sustainability of the community," said Charles Thompson III, area development director, UNCF. "When we come together to raise funds for area students, we secure brighter futures for us all."
The third annual luncheon will focus on the importance of education, with powerful remarks from Hollie Adejumo, UNCF Meyer Hoff and Merck Science scholar, and 2016 graduate of the University of Maryland Baltimore County with a degree in chemistry education—biochemistry. "The experience as a UNCF scholar was the most memorable and gave me preparation into graduate school and a future in research," says Adejumo. Currently, a graduate student at the University of Michigan, Adejumo plans to use her insight to continue to research contaminants in drinking water. Most recently, she worked with an environmental biotech group focused on waste water in Flint, Michigan.
For over 74 years, UNCF has helped tomorrow's leaders secure a quality education. With the support of corporate and community donors, including BGE, Columbia Association, Howard County Community College, St. John Baptist Church and Comcast, the Howard County Leaders' Luncheon will continue to forge the path to education for the next generation of area trailblazers.
