About Tanque Verde Ranch:
Established in 1868, the Tanque Verde Ranch has a deep-rooted history in Tucson. The property was originally owned by Don Emilio Carrillo, who moved his family to Tucson in 1856 and started ranching in the Tanque Verde Valley in 1868 with the protection of Tucson’s Fort Lowell patrols from the marauding Apaches. After Don Emilio passed away, his son, Rafael, assumed leadership but later sold the ranch to Jim Converse in the mid 1920’s. Cattleman Jim Converse introduced better genetics to the herd and became a very successful rancher in the Tucson Valley. Jim built lodging accommodations to begin welcoming eastern guests to Tanque Verde Ranch in 1928. The property’s continued to evolve ever since. Jim sold the Ranch to Brownie Cote in 1957, and it remains in the Cote family today.
