Unique Dallas Garden Center Celebrates 25th Anniversary With Annual Holiday Open House
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) November 07, 2014 -- The public is invited to join the celebration at open houses held at the center’s two locations – the first at Brumley’s new Bishop Arts location at 700 West Davis on Saturday, Nov. 22, with a second open house slated for the following day at the original Lake Highlands location, 10540 Church Road. Time is 12 until 5 p.m. both days.
The back-to-back events provide an opportunity to join the celebration and to see what’s new in the world of gardening and holiday decor. Refreshments and door prizes are in the works and Santa will be on hand for pictures both days.
Chris Brumley notes that his love for plants began when he was four years old, largely due to the influence of his great grandmother and the time he spent helping her tend her garden and flowers. He also credits his mother, saying, “She had an eye for design, and I guess I got the gene.”
His interest in gardening and design continued through high school during which he worked at a flower shop and greenhouse in his home town of Fordyce, Arkansas. After graduation, Brumley went on to earn a degree in Horticulture from Louisiana Tech.
Chris Brumley opened the Lake Highlands garden center in 1989, after a short stint in the corporate landscape world proved to the young entrepreneur that he was meant to be his own boss. There was never any question that his fledgling business would revolve around gardening and design.
Recalling the last twenty-five years, Brumley says, “I started out small, worked 15 hours every day and put everything I earned back in the business. Everything I accomplished, I did with nothing but hard work and the support of the loyal customers who have supported me through the years.” Chris has many loyal customers that he has worked with for the 30 + years he has been in Dallas.
Brumley opened the Bishop Arts location in 2011. Formerly a vintage 1930s gas station, the new garden center and gift shop is a unique, welcoming place for people who enjoy not only gardening, but specialty plants, gifts, antiques, decor and pottery. The local community has welcomed the new business, which fits nicely in the neighborhood’s artsy, small town setting.
The business continues to evolve. This year, Brumley added a greenhouse at the Lake Highlands location and is developing his own “home grown” operation. The center is proud to offer a variety of different and unusual plants, including native and drought-tolerant cultivars that thrive in the area’s arid environment. Brumley notes that the center offers the largest selection of sedums and succulents in Dallas-Fort Worth.
Brumley Gardens, which also offers full-service landscape design, installation and maintenance, is well-known for unique design and impeccable care and attention to detail. Key to this success is the loyal staff that has worked together installing Brumley projects for years.
Each year Chris transforms the garden centers into Christmas wonderlands offering extensive selections of collectable ornaments, décor and gifts. In addition to the open houses at the Lake Highland and Bishop Arts District locations, Brumley invites the public to enjoy the magical holiday spirit at both locations throughout the season.
