UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation Awards 20,000th Grant, Reaching Important Milestone in Mission to Help Families Gain Greater Access to Care
NEW YORK (PRWEB) July 31, 2019 -- UnitedHealthcare Children’s Foundation (UHCCF) has awarded its 20,000th grant, reaching an important milestone in its mission to help families gain greater access to care. Recently, UHCCF teamed with YourUpdateTV to discuss.

The announcement was made at the 10th Annual UHCCF Golf Classic at Hazeltine in Chaska, Minnesota, where more than 400 golfers, UnitedHealthcare employees, sponsors, guests and volunteers raised funds for the Foundation. This event is the largest single-day fundraiser for the Foundation, and this year raised a record-breaking $1.8 million to help fund additional medical grants for kids across the country.
During the event, the 20,000th grant recipient, first-grader Allie from Houma, Louisiana, and her family, were on hand to share their story of how UHCCF helped them obtain the necessary treatment and supplies to help Allie grow and thrive. The $2,500 grant helped purchase a walk-aide, which means that for the first time ever, Allie will be able to walk without an ankle-foot orthosis (AFO), which she has worn since she was one year old.
“Allie was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth, but that has not slowed her down one bit. She is a social butterfly, always moving and investigating one thing after the next,” said Allie’s mother, Sandy. “This new walk aide will change her life, giving her the independence and support she needs to spread her wings and keep moving. We are grateful for the support of UHCCF for helping make this happen.”
Since 2007, UHCCF has provided more than $48 million in medical grants to pay for children’s medical expenses not covered, or not fully covered, by a commercial health insurance plan. Families can receive up to $5,000 annually per child ($10,000 lifetime maximum per child), and do not need to have insurance through UnitedHealthcare to be eligible.

UHCCF has set a goal to award its 50,000th grant by 2030, underscoring its reach and commitment to help children and their families across the United States.
UHCCF grants help pay for a variety of medical services and equipment such as physical, occupational and speech therapies, counseling services, surgeries, prescriptions, wheelchairs, cranial helmets, orthotics, eyeglasses and hearing aids.
To be eligible for a grant, a child must be 16 years of age or younger. Families must meet economic guidelines, reside in the United States and have a commercial health insurance plan. Grants are available for medical expenses families have incurred 60 days prior to the date of application as well as for ongoing and future medical needs. Families do not need to have insurance through UnitedHealthcare to be eligible.
