Universal Children's Day has been celebrated annually on November 20th since 1954.
Talk radio host Sharon Kleyne uses her nationally syndicated radio program, The Sharon Kleyne Hour Water Life Science®/Nature's Pharma®, The Power of Water® & Your Health sponsored by Nature's Tears® EyeMist® and Nature's Mist® Face of the Water® and produced by Rose Hong of Global Dragon TV on VoiceAmerica, to advocate for children and has done so in her life and profession for more than fifty years.
The goal of Universal Children's Day, Kleyne teaches, is the business of improving a child's welfare worldwide. Universal Children's Day teaches everyone to promote and celebrate children's rights. Universal Children's Day encourages togetherness, an end to divisiveness, and increased awareness of the plight of children everywhere. Universal Children's Day also encourages heightened awareness among all children.
"121 million babies were born in the world last year," says Kleyne, "and they must learn to do certain things in their lives to slow down the natural process of evaporation." Kleyne teaches every week that parents everywhere need to teach their children how to breathe with the earth and universe. Children need to learn how to drink adequate clean water every day in the amount that is best for each one of them. Similarly, children need to eat diets that are good for them, diets that are unique to each child. Also, children need moderate exercise to be healthy, and they must sleep. "They must learn to sleep with the solar system," says Kleyne. They need to cuddle up with the stars because they are star-stuff! "The hearts of children are in our hands," says Kleyne. "Children don't want to be angry. They want joy. They want to learn."
Mayall, who is now semi-retired, shares that "I am trying to address huge problems in housing in this country." Kleyne points out that every child needs a place to live.
Kleyne considers Universal Children's Day strong in that way, too. Since its 1954 inception, the world has seen many milestone events in child welfare, not the least of which was the moment when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the declaration and the convention of children's rights. These rights include the child's right to be protected from violence and discrimination, and the right to health, education and life itself.
"Children around the world learn from what I call the 'tall people'," says Kleyne, who calls them that because she admits that she often has trouble calling them adults due to their bad behaviors. "Children want to grow up in environments where they're honored for their ambition, confidence, respect, wisdom and their own sense of individuality."
These qualities and desires are at the heart of Universal Children's Day, an annual event we can all be proud of and use to rededicate our efforts on behalf of the world's children.
